Dr. Evans Duah, a lecturer at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) and Financial Economist, has urged Ghanaians not to fear Artificial Intelligence (AI), but to embrace it as a tool for growth and opportunity.
Speaking at the KNUST Flecs Summit 2.0, held at the Kumapley Auditorium, Dr. Duah emphasized that AI is not here to eliminate jobs, but rather to transform and recreate them.
“We are not just experiencing change—an entire era is being transformed,” he said. “Artificial Intelligence has come to stay, and it is going to be a part of our lives. The question is: will we adapt?”
Dr. Duah challenged the widespread fear that AI would render many unemployed, asserting that AI will, in fact, create more jobs than it displaces, especially for those willing to reskill and upskill.
“AI is a tool without emotion. It follows human instructions—it cannot replace the human touch. Instead of feeling threatened, we must learn to work with it and use it to our advantage,” he stated.
His remarks were made during a panel discussion under the theme “Being AI Ready: Leveraging AI to Build Career, Business, and Wealth.” The summit brought together students, industry professionals, and tech experts to explore the future of work and digital transformation in Ghana.
Also present at the event were Mr. Phanuel Seli Kwadzo Asense, Senior Systems Analyst at KNUST, and Mr. Roger Adwetaa Menka, Head of ICT at Atwima Kwanwoma Rural Bank.
The summit emphasized the urgent need for individuals, especially the youth, to equip themselves with digital skills and embrace AI as a driver of innovation and job creation.
